Questions
How buying works, what the apps send us, and what happens to your license if we're gone.
How does buying work?
You pay once for a license. It includes every update we release in the year after you buy. When the year is up, the app keeps working on the version you have, for as long as you like. If you want another year of updates, you buy another year.
Is it a subscription?
No. Nothing renews by itself. If you skip a year, the app keeps working and you just don't get the new versions.
Do I need an account?
No. None of the Nomad apps asks you to sign in, for anything, and you don't create an account to buy one. You pay through Paddle, our reseller, and your license arrives as a file in your email.
What does a license cover?
One license covers you on every computer you use, as many as you like, on Linux, macOS and Windows.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Each desktop app has a free trial version you can download without signing up.
What do the apps send you?
Anchor and Canvas only go online to check for updates, and Roam talks only to your own computers on your network, encrypted. The update check sends the app, its version and your kind of system, like macOS on Apple silicon. Once you've bought the app, it also sends your license number and a random ID the app makes up the first time it opens, so we can count how many computers each license is used on and spot a key that's been posted online. That count never stops the app from working. Turn the check off in Settings and nothing is sent.
What's in the license?
A short block of text, signed by us, with your name, a license number, the app, the day you bought it and the day your updates run until. Open it in any text editor and read it. Your name shows in the app's About box. The app checks the signature on your computer, so it never goes online to ask us.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 30 days of buying, for any reason. Write to hello@onenomad.studio. A refunded license won't work in versions released after the refund.
What if OneNomad goes away?
Your apps keep working, because the license is checked on your computer and there's nothing on our side to switch off. You'd stop getting updates.
What about phone and tablet apps?
When we make them, each will be a single purchase in the App Store or Google Play, with no subscription and nothing to sign in to.
